Diana Canto-Sims, OD

Co-Founder & Board Member

Dr. Diana Canto-Sims founded Buena Vista Optical, a fully bilingual, multi-cultural private Optometric practice and eyewear boutique in the heart of Chicago.
She is the founder of La Vida Eyewear, an award-winning Independent frame collection created to embrace Diversity, Inclusion, and belonging by creating frame styles that fit her patient base, predominantly Hispanic, Latino, LatinX, and people of color.


Howard Purcell, OD

Co-Founder & Board Member

Howard Purcell, O.D., F.A.A.O., Diplomate and FNAP has been President and CEO of the New England College of Optometry (NECO) since July 2018.  Before assuming his leadership role at NECO, he served as Senior Vice President at Essilor of America and Senior Director at Johnson and Johnson Vision Care.  A second generation graduate of the New England College of Optometry, Dr. Purcell also participated in a group optometric practice for eleven years with his father in Miami Beach, FL.


Lawrence Chavez

Lawrence Chavez is the Founder & CEO of EveryDay Contacts a new brand of daily disposable contact lenses helping independent eye doctors redeem the doctor/patient relationship through their doctor-enabled direct-to-consumer model.


Glenda Aleman, OD

Board Member

Dr. Aleman-Moheeputh received her Bachelor of Science degree in Vision Science and Doctor of Optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University (NSU). She has held the role of clinical liaison for Walmart Health Optometry in Florida from 2019-present. She currently serves as a Johnson and Johnson myopia management professional affairs consultant (PAC). She is an active advisor in the advisor committee AAOMC and is an advisor for Nevakar myopia specialists.


Lina Arango, OD

Board Member

Lina T. Arango was born and raised in Colombia and moved to United States while in high school. Obtained a Bachelor of Science at the University of Miami majoring in Biology and Spanish Literature with a minor in Chemistry in 2008. Joining the College of Optometry at Nova Southeastern University in 2009 and completing the degree of Doctor of Optometry in 2013 where she was awarded with the Chancellor’s Scholarship. Dr. Arango, completed her Optometry externships at Shanghai Eye and ENT Hospital in China and at the WJB VA Medical Center in South Carolina.


Karen Carrasquillo, OD, PhD

Board Member

Dr. Karen G. Carrasquillo is Senior Vice President of Clinical and Professional Affairs at BostonSight. In addition, she is an adjunct clinical professor at the New England College of Optometry, an adjunct clinical professor at the school of optometry, MCPHS University, Advisory Board member for the Gas Permeable Lens Institute (GPLI), Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO), Fellow of the Educational Society of Scleral Lenses (FSLS), Fellow of the British Contact Lens Association (FBCLA), and Global Ambassador of the BCLA. She is the founder and Program Chair of FitAcademy, an educational retreat focused on corneal disease and scleral lens management and co-management and is also a planning committee member for the International Congress of Scleral Contacts (ICSC) Meeting and Global Ophthalmic Women (GLOW) meeting. She was named one of Vision Monday’s Most Influential Woman in Optical in 2021.


Sandra Juarez Fortenberry, OD, FAAO

Dr. Sandra Juarez Fortenberry is the Dean for the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry and began her official appointment on June 1, 2022, as the first female Hispanic Dean of an optometry school in the nation. She is part of the founding faculty at the Rosenberg School of Optometry (RSO) and has served as Director of Continuing Education, Director of Professional Relations, and Assistant Dean for Professional Advancement during her time at RSO.

Hector Santiago, OD

Board Member

Dr. Hector Santiago was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Mathematics (Magna Cum Laude) at the University of Puerto Rico, his Master’s and Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Texas Graduate School Of Biomedical Sciences at Houston, and his Doctor of Optometry Degree from the New England College of Optometry in Boston.


Diana Shechtman, OD

Board Member

Dr. Diana Shechtman is a board-certified Optometric Physician who obtained her degree from Nova Southeastern University in 1998. She completed an ocular disease residency at Fox Medical Center in Miami in 1999.  She later obtained her oral prescription certification and DEA.  She was a full-time professor for 18 years at Nova Southeastern University. Among her many roles, she served as the coordinator of the Diabetes & Macula Clinic and the Director of Interdisciplinary Education Program. She then went on to join RMSM as the consultative physician from 2017-2021. She is currently the consultative optometric physician and medical optometric physician at Eye Centers of South Florida, where she continues to practice full scope medical optometry.  She also serves as an adjunct professor for a number of colleges of optometry; through her participation in the externship educational programs.
